Island Storm News Release
(Charlottetown, PE) As part of their training camp, the Island STORM announced today they will play two inter-squad games to go along with their exhibition game to be played at Three Oaks Senior High School in Summerside.
The first inter-squad game will be played Thursday October 23rd beginning at 7 pm at Westisle Composite High School in Elmsdale. Traditionally, this game at Westisle has been the first event of each season since the STORM was formed four years ago. All proceeds from ticket sales and 50-50 tickets go back to the athletic council at the school.
"This inter-squad game in Westisle should be the most competitive in STORM history," says STORM Head Coach Joe Salerno. The STORM have invited a wealth of talent to training camp this year and the Westisle game will have players fighting for spots on the roster. "It's certainly exciting to be heading back to Westisle Composite for our fourth straight season holding our annual training camp Inter-squad game there. That community has always been very supportive of our organization, and it's always a great turnout."
"This is an exciting game, as it's the only time that all 20 players from our training camp will still be here, playing in a real game like setting. This is by far the most talented group of players we have assembled over the past 4 seasons, so this camp will be as competitive as ever. This inter-squad game will actually be taking place the night before our first round of cuts, so there is no question guys will be leaving it all out on the floor. It should be a great night of basketball!"
Meanwhile, the STORM will play another inter-squad game Sunday afternoon November 2nd at Montague High School. The event starts with the STORM's "Next Level" Developmental Program playing a game starting at 1 pm. The "Next Level" program consists of players under 14 and going into grades 8 and 9 who have shown the potential to play at a higher level. Following this game, the Island STORM will play an exhibition game which will also feature some STORM players taking part in a Slam Dunk Contest.
The STORM also announced their training camp times for the week of Monday October 20th to Sunday October 26th. The team will practice next Monday and Tuesday at the UPEI Gymnasium from 8 to 10am and from 1:30 to 3:30pm. On Wednesday from 9 to 10:30am and 1:30 to 3:30pm, Saturday from 10am to 12noon, and Sunday from 10:30am to 12:30pm.
STORM Fans are invited to come out to watch training camp practices at UPEI. Fans can watch from the walking track at the UPEI Gymnasium.
