
Storm add depth to defense

TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm continue to add depth to the defense as they have signed fullback/linebackers Torrance Marshall and Rodney Filer, defensive lineman Roderkus Wright and defensive back Bo Rogers, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced today.
Marshall, a 6-3, 250-pound fullback/linebacker out of Oklahoma, spent 2006 with the Austin Wranglers. He recorded 24 tackles, recovered one fumble and blocked one kick. Offensively, he had 18 rushing attempts for 69 yards and three touchdowns.
He was drafted in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers and spent four seasons with the Packers playing linebacker. In Green Bay he accumulated 53 tackles, one sack and recovered four fumbles. In his final game as a Sooner he was named Most Valuable Player of the 2001 Orange Bowl, leading the Sooners to a National Championship.
Filer, a 6-foot-3, 260-pound fullback/linebacker out of Iowa, adds considerable depth to the position. A versatile player, he is an eight-year veteran of the Arena Football League. He finished this past season with 27 carries for 132 yards and one touchdown while catching six passes for 45 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, he had 18 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He was named Second Team All-Arena in 2003.
He was on the practice squad with the New York Jets in 2001 and with the San Diego Chargers in 1997. In college he earned Offensive MVP honors in the 1999 Alamo Bowl against Iowa State.
Wright, a 6-4, 280-pound defensive lineman from Grossmont College, is an AFL rookie. He began his collegiate career at the University of Oregon before transferring to Grossmont. He played three years of college football before leaving school to pursue a professional career. He has 4.9 speed in the 40-yard dash and led his team in sacks his junior year. He earned First Team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American honors in 2005.
Rogers, a 5-10, 185-pound cornerback from Western Michigan comes to the Storm from the Ottawa Renegades of the Canadian Football League. He was an All-American and All-Mid-American Conference selection during his senior year. Rogers finished college with 14 interceptions, 214 tackles, 39 pass deflections, one sack, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
He signed as a rookie free agent with the St. Louis Rams in 2002 and was released by the Rams in training camp. He then joined the New York Giants practice squad in September of 2002. In 2003 he played for the NFL Europe's Scottish Claymores, recording 33 tackles, one interception and five pass break-ups. He joined the Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League in 2004 before signing with the Renegades. In two seasons with the Renegades he had 58 tackles, two interceptions, five pass break-ups and one fumble recovery.
