Bakersfield Blitz News Release
Bakersfield Blitz were defeated by Stockton Lightning on Saturday, May 20th at Rabobank Arena. Blitz trailed behind Stockton by one touchdown beginning in the first quarter and fought hard throughout the game. Nonetheless, the game finished at Stockton 49, Bakersfield 42. Attendance at Rabobank Arena: 4,759.
1st Quarter
Game started with touchdown by OL/DL, Ben McCombs. Touchdown was shortly followed by two touchdowns by Stockton's Kenyatt Morgan and Atnas Maeko. First quarter ended with a score of Stockton 14, Blitz 6.
2nd Quarter
Current af2 leader in interceptions, DS Alex Wallace, intercepted touchdown attempt for Stockton. This was his first and only interception of the game; giving him a total of 7 interceptions for the af2 2006 season. The first half ended at Blitz 16, Stockton 28.
3rd Quarter
Blitz came on the field wanting pay back for the first half, and was able to score in the first two minutes of the quarter. OS, Rennard Reynolds was the man in the end zone with a 19 yard touchdown pass from QB, Mike Wall. At the end of the quarter, the game turned over when a sack by Blitz caused Stockton to fumble. The ball was recovered by OL/DL, Jerry Turner as he landed in the endzone for a touchdown. However, it didn't take long for Stockton to take the lead again as they scored within the last 40 seconds of the quarter. Third quarter ended Stockton 42, Blitz 36.
4th Quarter
The game looked like it was headed to overtime when the Blitz caught up to Stockton with Mike Wall's 22 yard touchdown pass to WR/DB, DeRonn Finley. Unfortunately, the Blitz were unable to score again ending the game at Stockton 49, Blitz 42.
The Blitz will be traveling north on Saturday, May 27th for the Battle of Highway 99-Part II against the Central Valley Coyotes. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Selland Arena.
