Bakersfield Blaze News Release
Bakersfield got the tying run in scoring position and the winning run aboard in the 9th, but came up 1 hit short as Stockton won a tight pitchers' duel at Sam Lynn on Wednesday night, 2-1.
The Ports scored first, picking up a run before the seats could cool (yes, we know that's backwards, but it's warm out), as Myrio Richard and Anthony Aliotti each doubled in the 1st.
Then, the duel began. Josh Ravin (L, 1-7) went 6 innings, giving up just that 1st inning run while striking out 8, but his counterpart was one better. Jacob Brown (W, 2-4), coming off a 2.2-inning mess his last time out, was brilliant, shutting down Bakersfield over 6 innings on just 3 hits.
Then, the bullpens fought it out. Mace Thurman and Scott Deal each worked scoreless 7th and 8th innings, before Scott Gaffney surrendered an insurance run in the 9th on a sacrifice fly by Mitch LeVier.
The Blaze fought valiantly in the bottom half off lights-out closer Jose Guzman, getting a double from Ryan La Marre, an RBI single from Chris Richburg, and a walk from Alex Buchholz - but with the tying and winning runs aboard, Guzman got a groundout to end the game, and Stockton evened the series at 1.
The series resumes tomorrow at 7:45pm for TAILGATE THURSDAY. Half price beer and live music from Elevation 406 from 6:30 until roughly 8pm, and the game will be broadcast live on BakersfieldBlaze.com.
