Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(ADELANTO, CA) - Denny Almonte continued his single-handed attack on the JetHawks Wednesday night. The High Desert outfielder homered twice, including a walk-off blast in the ninth inning, as the Mavericks defeated the Lancaster JetHawks 7-6. The JetHawks had fought from five runs down to tie the score in the eighth, only to lose their 12th consecutive road game.

An error helped the Mavericks to five runs in the first inning as they took an early lead. Almonte was instrumental with a three-run homer.

After the rocky start JetHawks hurler Jake Buchanan settled down. He allowed just one more run while pitching into the eighth inning, allowing time for his offense to come back.

The chipping away process for Lancaster started with two runs in the second inning. Jonathan Meyer and David Flores opened with hits. That led to a RBI single by Miguel Arrendell and a sacrifice bunt by Grant Hogue to push across another run.

The tying burst came in the eighth inning. Four walks combined with run-scoring hits by Meyer and Federico Hernandez as the JetHawks plated three runs to tie the score.

Almonte's second home run of the game, however, ended the game in the ninth. Almonte has 15 home runs and 64 RBI this season. 11 of the homers and 30 of the runs driven in have come against the JetHawks.

The JetHawks continue the road trip Thursday night at Mavericks Stadium. Andrew Robinson (4-7) will start for Lancaster against James Gilheeney (5-4) of High Desert. The game starts at 7:05 and will be broadcast live on radio by 87.7 Kickin' Country and online at CSN at JetHawks.com (click the listen live link). The Pre-Game Show starts at 6:50.

The JetHawks return home Wednesday, July 20 to open a six-game homestand against the High Desert Mavericks and the Lake Elsinore Storm. For tickets and other information, call (661) 726-5400 or visit JetHawks.com.
