Saint Louis FC News Release
TULSA, Ok. - Saint Louis FC won 3-0 away to Tulsa Roughnecks FC in front of 2,543 fans at ONEOK Field in Match 14 of the USL regular season.
Saint Louis FC opened the scoring through Kyle Greig who finished the cross from Joey Calistri in the 17th minute for his sixth goal of the season. Calistri would then extend the lead with two stunners in the second half to see the away side claim all three points and improve to 5-4-5 overall with 20 points in the USL Western Conference.
The first half started with Saint Louis FC on the front foot as they earned four corners in the first five minutes of the game. They would break the deadlock in the 17th minute when Calistri crossed the ball low for Greig to collect, turn, and smash into the back of the net. Tulsa responded with two chances in quick succession, the first from Jesus Ferreira which STLFC goalkeeper Tomas Gomez saved in the 25th minute before Joaquin Rivas had his header cleared off the goal line from Lewis Hilton in the 28th minute. Greig then had another chance saved by Tulsa goalkeeper Fabian Cerda in the 42nd minute to maintain the 1-0 advantage for the away side going into the halftime break.
The second half was more of the same with STLFC controlling possession and creating the majority of chances. They would double their lead in the 59th minute after Albert Dikwa played Calistri into space and he fired a rocket from outside the box into the top corner of the net. Calistri would double his tally soon after in the 68th minute as he spun around his defender and nutmegged Cerda for his third goal in two games and fourth overall this season. Saint Louis FC would see out the win and earn their sixth clean sheet of the season as they prepare to host USL Western Conference-leaders Real Monarchs SLC next Saturday, June 16th at Toyota Stadium.
"I thought it was an excellent all-round performance tonight," said STLFC Head Coach Anthony Pulis. "I'm extremely proud of all the guys for the work they put in. Out-of-possession they worked their socks off, and in-possession they showed lots of quality at the right moments. Now it's important we get a good week of training in to prepare for a huge game next weekend against Real Monarchs."
