Stingrayz Upset Sirens

May 16, 2004 - Independent Women's Football League (IWFL)
San Francisco Stingrayz News Release

On Saturday, May 15, 2004 the Sacramento Sirens incredible winning streak finally came to an end at the hands of the San Francisco Stingrayz.

Both teams had come into this week's game having blown out all their previous opponents this season, with only the Sirens giving up a single point in their 62-6 victory last week over the San Diego SeaCatz.

With Sacramento averaging 67 points in four games and San Francisco scoring an average of 90 points in two games this season (SF won a game via forfeit) this game had the potential of being the first of the biggest games of the year. And it didn't disappoint.

The Sirens drew first blood scoring an early 1st quarter touchdown. But the game belonged to the Stingrayz after scoring a two-point conversion on their first TD of the game, taking the lead at 8-7. The Stingrayz never looked back winning the game 36-20.

The Stingrayz appeared to have won the Super Bowl as the sidelines and stands exploded in cheers when the game went final. The two teams met at the fifty-yard-line congratulating one another on a game well played. The Stingrayz then continued to cheer and celebrate on into the locker. The Sirens bowed their heads and walked off the field in disbelief at their first loss in franchise history.

The Sirens have a bye week before hosting the San Francisco Stingrayz in their final home game of the season on May 29th.

The Stingrayz will play four straight games to end the regular season beginning next weekend in Santa Rosa, CA, playing the Scorchers on Sunday, May 23rd.
