Arizona Sting News Release

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Monday the signing of free agent forward Kyle McEwen to a one-year contract.

The 6'3", 230 lb. McEwen was originally drafted by San Jose in the 2nd round (21st overall) of the 2003 NLL Entry Draft. A native of New Westminster, British Columbia, he most recently played for the Langley Thunder of the Western Lacrosse Association where he had 20 points (8G-12A) in only 10 games this past summer. In 18 games for his hometown New Westminster Salmonbellies of the B.C. Jr. ‘A' Lacrosse League in 2004, McEwan scored 15 goals to go along with 26 assists and 17 penalty minutes.

"Kyle has good size and ability," Coach Hamley said on Friday. "We expect him to compete for a spot on our roster on the offensive left side, and we look forward to seeing him in training camp."

The Sting had a multitude of right-handed forwards in 2005, including First-Team NLL All-Pro Dan Dawson and NLL Champion's Cup scoring leader Craig Conn in addition to scoring threats Peter Veltman and Jonas Derks. By trading for Jason Crosbie, drafting Matt Brown, and signing McEwen (all left-handed players) in the off-season, the offensive attack of the Sting looks to be more balanced going into the 2006 season.

The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). In only their second season in Arizona (after re-locating from Columbus, Ohio), the Sting finished the 2005 season with a 9-7 regular-season record prior to going on to win the West Division Championship before losing to the Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final (NLL title game).
