Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, AZ --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Tuesday that Assistant Coach Bob McMahon has been signed to a two-year contract extension. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not released.
"Bob is a huge part of our organization and we're thrilled to be bringing him back," said Hamley. "I look forward to working with him further as we approach our goal of winning a Champion's Cup. Bob is highly respected throughout the lacrosse community and is always a top candidate for head coaching jobs throughout the league. We're fortunate to have him in Arizona."
McMahon has been with the Sting since the team's arrival in the Valley of the Sun in 2003. In 2002, the Orangeville, ON native was named NLL Coach of the Year after leading the Albany Attack to a league-best 14-2 record in his inaugural season as head coach with the team. McMahon was an assistant with the Attack for two seasons prior to being named head coach on May 15, 2001. He was also a member of the Detroit Turbos' coaching staff from 1993-94 and won a Gold Medal as an assistant coach with Team Canada at the 2003 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships.
"I'm very excited to be returning to the Sting," said McMahon. "The organization has always treated me extremely well and the fans in Arizona are second to none. We've got a strong chance to win it all this season, and I'm looking forward to getting back behind the bench."
In addition to his coaching experience in the National Lacrosse League and on the international scene, McMahon was the head coach of the Brampton Excelsiors (Major Series Lacrosse) for four seasons (1997-2000). The Excelsiors won a Mann Cup (Canadian National Championship) in 1998 and McMahon was named the league's Coach of the Year in 2000.
