Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Tuesday the signing of goaltender Mike Miron to a one-year contract.
The 25-year old netminder registered a 13.25 Goals Against Average for Arizona last season, finishing with a record of 5-7 to go along with his .740 Save Percentage. In the playoffs, he made a league-best 113 saves on 158 shots as the Sting made their way to the Champion's Cup Final before bowing out to the semi-dynastic Toronto Rock.
"Mike has been a big part of this team for quite some time now," Hamley said. "He was clutch for us last year in the playoffs and we expect big things from him next season. With the addition of (Rob) Blasdell to our roster, training camp should be competitive at the goaltender position, but I'm sure Mike's up to the challenge."
On July 14, 2005, Arizona traded their first-round pick in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft to the Edmonton Rush in exchange for goalie Rob Blasdell, who currently ranks sixth on the NLL's all-time saves list with 2,670. The Sting also have Miron's back-up from last season, Ken Montour, on their roster. Montour was undefeated (4-0) last year with Arizona.
In 2004, Miron led the NLL in saves, stopping 672 balls on the season. That same year, he tied a league record by allowing only 4 goals in a game versus Rochester on March 6. For his efforts, the 5'10", 265 lb. goalie known as âTiny' was selected to represent the West Division at the 2004 NLL All-Star Game.
Originally drafted in the 2nd round (17th overall) of the 2001 NLL Entry Draft, Miron has spent his entire career with the Columbus/Arizona franchise. The Capreol, Ontario, native enters 2006 with 1,880 career saves, a 13.07 career GAA, and a .749 SV% in four seasons.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). In only their second season in Arizona (after re-locating from Columbus, Ohio), the Sting finished the 2005 regular season with a 9-7 record prior to going on to win the West Division Championship before losing to the Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final (NLL title game).
