Charlotte Sting News Release

The Charlotte Sting own the third overall pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft, the WNBA announced today following the fifth annual Draft Lottery.

The Minnesota Lynx, who had 167 out of 1,000 chances to receive the first overall selection, won the lottery and will select first. The Phoenix Mercury will have the second pick while the San Antonio Silver Stars and Washington Mystics will select fourth and fifth respectively.

The Draft Lottery was conducted by WNBA officials and representatives from the accounting firm of Ernst & Young at the WNBA Headquarters on Fifth Avenue in New York and included the five teams that did not qualify for the 2005 WNBA Playoffs. The lottery establishes the order of selection for the first round of the draft, with the order of selection for the second and third rounds based on each team's finish during the 2005 regular season.

In addition to the third overall pick, the Sting will have the 10th overall pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft. This pick was acquired along with Adrienne Goodson and Kristen Rasmussen from the Houston Comets in exchange for Dawn Staley and a 2006 second round pick on August 1, 2005.

Last season, the Sting beat the odds in the Draft Lottery to capture the top pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft. With the number one pick, they selected Janel McCarville from the University of Minnesota.

The Charlotte Sting will celebrate their 10th Anniversary next summer as they move uptown to Charlotte Bobcats Arena. For more information on the Charlotte Sting, please visit www.charlottesting.com.
