Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Thursday the signing of Assistant Captain Bruce Codd to a one-year contract, pending league approval. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Bruce is one of the leaders on this team and we're thrilled to be bringing him back," said Hamley. "I've always thought that he's one of the most underrated players in our league because a lot of people underestimate his versatility. He's a very intelligent player that always puts in a solid effort on the floor and he sets an excellent example for the younger players to follow."
Last season Codd led Arizona in loose balls with 117. The 28-year old also dished out nine assists and logged 11 PIM while appearing in all 16 games for the Sting. In 88 career NLL games as a member of the Albany Attack, Columbus Landsharks, Montreal Express, Ottawa Rebel, and Arizona Sting, Codd has registered 25G-81A-106P in addition to 617 LB and 49 PIM. Bruce's most productive season came in 2002 when, as a member of the Express, he scored 9 goals and dished out 36 assists for 45 points while scooping up 197 loose balls on the season.
Originally drafted by the Albany Attack in the ninth round (66th overall) of the 1999 NLL Entry Draft, Codd won back-to-back Minto Cups (Canadian National Junior Championship) with the Orangeville Northmen in 1995 and 1996. The 5'8", 155 lb. defenseman currently ranks second on the Sting's all-time loose balls list with 246. He ranks sixth in team history with 24 penalty minutes.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Their home games are played at the Glendale Arena and their season runs annually from January-April. For more information, please visit www.ArizonaSting.com.
