April 24, 2006 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Governor Douglas Moss announced today that the Sting have signed Head Coach/General Manager Bob Hamley to a multi-year contract extension. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Bob has a history of success in the NLL and is well respected by his peers," said Moss. "He has done a tremendous job with the Arizona Sting and has helped grow the sport of lacrosse here in the Valley of the Sun. Under Bob's leadership, we look forward to raising a championship banner to the rafters of Glendale Arena in the near future."
Last season, Hamley became the first man in NLL history to be named both Coach and General Manager of the year after making several key moves that led to the Sting making a dramatic run to the Champion's Cup Final, a game that they lost to the dynastic Toronto Rock 19-13. The Sting posted a record of 9-7 in 2005, their best in franchise history.
Hamley was named the Arizona Sting's General Manager and Head Coach on November 13, 2003. The 40-year-old native of Fergus, Ontraio, has led the Sting to a record of 27-25 (including playoffs) over the course of three seasons in Arizona.
"The support that the Coyotes Organization has shown both me and my family has been incredible. We are very proud to call Phoenix our home and I look forward to continuing to build the great sport of lacrosse throughout the state of Arizona."
In 2003, Hamley led the Columbus Landsharks to their best season in franchise history with an 8-8 record, falling one game shy of a playoff berth in the team's last season in Ohio. Prior to his position with the Landsharks, Hamley served as an assistant coach for the 14-2 Champion's Cup finalist Albany Attack during the 2002 season. As a player, 'Hammer' was a member of two championship-winning Buffalo Bandits teams in the 1990's and scored 44 goals in 31 career games.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Currently in their third season of existence, the Sting are the defending NLL West Division Champions. For more information, please call (480) 563-7825 or visit ArizonaSting.com.
