Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Calgary, AB - Bob Poole, Vice President of the Calgary Roughnecks for the past two years, today announced his retirement.
"I told Brad (owner Brad Banister) back in February that this would be my last season," said Poole, "because I wanted to give him ample time to find a successor."
Poole, 61, added, "There's no single, earth shattering reason for my decision. After 45 years in the work force, I just got tired of the daily grind. I also want to improve my golf, travel more, upgrade my reading material, take a couple of courses and do a myriad of other things that a regular job prevents me from doing."
Kurt Silcott who, as General Manager of the Roughnecks, looks after the team and its dealings with the National Lacrosse League, will now also assume Poole's duties on the business side of the operation.
"I've had a blast at the Roughnecks," said Poole, "and I can't thank Brad enough for giving me the opportunity to work with him and the rest of the owners.
"Hopefully, the improved attendance and sponsorships, allied with a tighter rein on expenses, will soon see the club become a success both off and on the floor."
Poole added, "Kurt is a great guy, a wonderful communicator and a good friend. There's no doubt in my mind that he'll take this club to new and greater heights."
Banister commented, "Bob is a top notch individual and he will be sadly missed. Hopefully Kurt and I can persuade him to stay around in a part-time capacity. We'd certainly be less than smart if we didn't to tap into his experience and knowledge."
