Sting Gets Veteran Indoor Coach in Folmar

ERIE, PA - (12/15/12) The Western Pennsylvania Sting are proud to announce the acquisition of experienced indoor and arena football coach Steven G. Folmar. Folmar, reunites with newly named head coach Paul Pennington and will call the defense for the Sting, as well as hold the title of Assistant head coach to Pennington. Pennington was Folmar's offensive coordinator and assistant head coach with the Erie RiverRats of the American Indoor Football Association in 2009.

Folmar has a long resume of coaching in professional football, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. He was most recently the head coach of the Erie RiverRats of the AIFA, with stints as head coach of the Johnstown Riverhawks of the AIFA and the Raleigh Rebels of the American Indoor Football League. With Raleigh, Folmar coached a defense that was in first in the league in fumble recoveries and sacks and third in interceptions. That team also featured the Defensive Player of the Year, linebacker John Williamson. Calling plays on both the offense and defense, Folmar also had the sixth best scoring offense in the AIFL with a squad that made it to the Southern Conference Championship game in 2006.

Folmar spent 3 seasons in the arena football league 2 with the Bakersfield Blitz as director of football operations and special teams coordinator, and one year as the defensive coordinator with the Central Valley Coyotes (Fresno, CA) under head coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. He started out as an assistant coach on the staff of the Buffalo Destroyers and head coach Ray Bentley in 2000.

He holds an undergraduate degree in Health and Physical Education from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, with a Master's of Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He is currently employed as a Behavior Specialist with Children's Behavioral Health, Inc. of out Meadville, Pennsylvania. Folmar is single and resides in Meadville, where he is active in the community as a member of the American Legion Post 111, The Cochranton Masonic Lodge 790, The Italian Civic Club, and Vietnam Veterans and Welcome Home Association Post 52. Steven is also an 11-year veteran of the US Army Reserves and Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
