Washington Stealth News Release
Everett, Wash. - Sticks-2-Schools, the non-profit partner of the National Lacrosse League's Washington Stealth, has announced a fundraiser at Tech City Bowl in Kirkland, Wash., on October 20. The fundraiser, featuring appearances by Stealth players, coaches and the Bombshells dance team, will assist the organization in promoting a healthy lifestyle in elementary, middle and high schools around the Puget Sound Region.
Sticks-2-Schools is a nonprofit, public benefit corporation, organized under the 501(c)3 section of the tax code, that helps fight childhood obesity by motivating youth to increase their level of physical activity. The program donates lacrosse equipment, curriculum guides and instruction from Stealth players at no cost to the schools.
Sticks-2-Schools got its start in Washington in Spring of 2011 and has since visited over 20 schools and after school programs in the Puget Sound Region. But with over 80 schools currently on the waiting list, fundraising continues to be a priority. It costs $2,000 to implement Sticks-2-Schools into a single PE curriculum.
"Local school budgets are under pressure and there is not enough money to introduce new sports into the curriculum," said Denise Watkins, Owner of the Washington Stealth and President of Sticks-2-Schools. "In order to get the kids excited about physical education, it is important to introduce new sports. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the US for a reason; kids like it."
The Tech City Bowl fundraiser will help to provide more students in Washington the opportunity to learn about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle through lacrosse. Those in attendance will be treated to an afternoon of bowling, arcade games and snacks with numerous players from the Washington Stealth, as well as the Bombshells dance team and the Stealth mascot, Bomber the Fox. The event will be held from 1pm-3pm on Saturday, October 20.
Tickets for the event are just $25 for adults and $15 for children under 13 years old. There will also be an auction including great prizes and Stealth memorabilia. All of the money raised during the event will go towards equipment, curriculum guides and instruction for local schools on the Sticks-2-Schools waiting list. Tech City Bowl is located at 13033 NE 70th Place, Kirkland, WA 98033.
To RSVP for the event, send an email to community@stealthlax.com, or call Sticks-2-Schools coordinator Regan Olson at (425) 374-7290 x306. For more information on Sticks-2-Schools, visit www.sticks2schools.org .
