Stevens & Stubbs Go Deep, Riders Roll Late

Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

FRISCO - Rehabbing Texas Ranger Nathaniel Lowe connected on the go-ahead swing in the fifth inning Sunday afternoon, turning a 1-1 tie into a Riders lead with an opposite-field two-run blast to left. Frisco then pulled away via a six-run eighth for a 10-2 win over the Hooks in the series finale at Riders Field.

Corpus Christi's offense was confined to two tape-measure home runs. Chad Stevens opened the third with a 429-foot bomb off the batter's eye in center. Stevens' first long ball of the season exited his bat at 106 miles an hour. To begin the eighth, C.J. Stubbs swatted a 460-foot poke that soared over the berm in left.

Stubbs has gone deep in back-to-back games.

Jordan Brewer had two hits and Kenedy Corona reached base three times thanks to a single and pair of walks.

After yielding a two-out RBI single in the first, Tyler Guilfoil permitted just three baserunners while blanking Frisco from the second through the fourth. In the fifth, Guilfoil issued a lead-off walk before inducing a lineout, which ended his day at 71 pitches.

Lowe then greeted Cesar Gomez with a home run. Gomez retired two of the next three hitters to finish the frame.

The Riders salted the game by sending 11 men to bat in a six-run eighth inning. Jaime Melendez permitted three hits in the rally, but struggled mightily with command, issuing three consecutive walks along with plunking a batter.

Nick Krauth turned in a quality start for Frisco, scattering four hits without issuing a free pass over six innings.
