Cole Winn Makes MLB Debut

FRISCO, Texas - Former Frisco RoughRiders pitcher Cole Winn made his MLB debut with the Texas Rangers on Sunday, April 14th in their game against the Houston Astros from Minute Maid Park.

Winn came out of the bullpen in the Rangers' 8-5 loss and did not allow a base runner over 1.2 innings, striking out Jose Abreu for his first and only strikeout of the outing.

In 2021 with the RoughRiders, Winn went 3-3 with a 2.31 ERA over 19 starts. He threw 78.0 innings, allowing just 38 hits and 26 walks while striking out 97. He won both Double-A Central Pitcher of the Year honors and the Nolan Ryan Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year award. After the Double-A season ended, he made two starts with Triple-A Round Rock to finish out his season.

Among those who threw at least 70 innings during the 2021 season in the minors, Winn finished first with a .143 batting average against and third in WHIP (0.82).

Over the last three seasons (2022-2024), Winn has pitched in Round Rock and was called up to Texas from the Express.

Winn is the fifth former RoughRiders player to make his MLB debut in 2024 and the 202nd player in franchise history, joining Wyatt Langford, Justin Slaten, Justin Foscue and Davis Wendzel.

The RoughRiders hit the road next to start a six-game series with the Arkansas Travelers (Seattle Mariners) at 11:05 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16th. RHP Ryan Garcia (0-0, 9.00) will take the ball for Frisco against LHP Raul Alcantara (0-0, 4.15) for the Travs.
