Steve Foucault joins Bears as pitching coach

NEWARK, NJ - January 18, 2007 - The Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club announced Steve Foucault was hired to the position of Pitching Coach for the 2007 season. The announcement was made earlier today by Bears General Manager John Brandt.
"The Newark Bears are excited to bring in Steve Foucault as the Pitching Coach for the 2007 season," said Brandt. "Steve and Wayne Krenchicki have had many successful seasons together, and his coaching experience will be a great asset to our pitching staff."
Foucault joins the Bears after serving as the Pitching Coach for the Camden Riversharks since 2001, and has worked with Bears Manager Wayne Krenchicki for 13 seasons. As Pitching Coach with the Riversharks, Foucault's pitching staff led the league in team ERA four of six seasons, including three straight, 2002, 2003, and 2004. In addition, he coached Lincoln Mikkelsen (2002), Ben Simon (2003), and Brett Laxton (2005) to Atlantic League Pitcher of the Year Honors.
"Steve and I have worked together for 13 seasons, and each season has started with the same philosophy," said Krenchicki. "It will start with pitching as we look to bring the same success we had together to Newark for the 2007 season.
After originally signing with the Washington Senators in the 1969 amateur draft, Foucault made his Major League debut on April 7, 1973 with the Texas Rangers. In his career, he appeared in 277 games, all in relief, with the Rangers, Detroit Tigers, and Kansas City Royals. During his career, Foucault picked up 35 wins and 52 saves while posting a career ERA of 3.21. In 1974, Foucault finished third in the American League in games with 69, and fifth in 1975 with 59.
The Newark Bears will begin their ninth season at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Tuesday, May 8 against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
