O'Fallon, Mo. - Rascals' starting pitcher Zack Sterner tossed a complete game and the Jason Patton launched a go-ahead two-run homerun to right to lift River City past the Miners 3-2, evening the series at a game apiece.

Sterner (1-0) was in trouble most of the night, walking three and allowing 10 hits overall, four in the third inning that led to a 2-0 Miners lead. The defense turned in one of their best outing of the night to help the Rascal starter. Doug Sanders made a diving play to start the fifth and Chris McClendon turned in several defensive gems as Sterner worked his way through the night, striking out five and inducing two double-plays, including the game ender.

The River City offense got all they would need in the fifth with four hits and a sacrifice fly, the big blow of the inning coming from Patton who launched a towering shot to right, his second homerun of the series, for the 3-2 lead.

After a day off on Friday, the Rascals and Miners resume the best-of-five series Saturday night at Rent One Park in Marion, Illinois. Sean Joy will take the mound for Southern Illinois against Preston Vancil for River City.
