Steenhuis, King, Vyse and Merrill Honored

Buffalo Bandits forward Mark Steenhuis was named the Week Thirteen Overall and Offensive Player of the Week after leading Buffalo to two wins over the weekend. Steenhuis combined for eight goals and one assist in a 13-11 road win over Minnesota and an 18-13 home win over Rochester in Week Thirteen. Portland LumberJax goaltender Matt King earned the Week Thirteen Defensive Player of the Week Award for his performance in an 11-10 home win over the San Jose Stealth on Saturday. King entered the game in the first quarter when the LumberJax were trailing 5-0 and then saved 27 of 32 shots on goal, allowing only five goals in 51 minutes of play and recorded the win. Buffalo Bandits forward Roger Vyse and Portland LumberJax defenseman Brodie Merrill split the Week Thirteen Rookie of the Week Award.

Buffalo Bandits forward Mark Steenhuis was named the Week Thirteen Overall and Offensive Player of the Week. In a 13-11 road win over Minnesota on Friday, Steenhuis scored two goals and collected four loose balls. On Saturday in an 18-13 home win over Rochester, Steenhuis tied a Bandits franchise single game goals record scoring seven goals, tying John Tavares and Darris Kilgour for the record. Amongst his seven goals, the Bandits forward scored two short-handed goals and a power-play goal. He also recorded one assist and collected eleven loose balls in the win.

Portland LumberJax goaltender Matt King earned the Defensive Player of the Week Award for Week Thirteen. King relieved Dallas Eliuk in the LumberJax goal nine minutes into the first quarter and trailing 5-0 to the San Jose Stealth on Saturday. King then stopped 27 of 32 shots, allowing only five goals in 51 minutes of play to record an 11-10 win over the Stealth. King also registered an assist and scooped up a loose ball in the win, his second win of the season.

Buffalo Bandits forward Roger Vyse and Portland LumberJax defenseman Brodie Merrill split the Week Thirteen Rookie of the Week Award.

Roger Vyse scored two goals and scooped up two loose balls in a 13-11 road win over Minnesota on Friday. On Saturday Vyse scored five points on two goals and three assists and collected four loose balls in an 18-13 home win over Rochester. The award is the first career player award for Vyse.

Brodie Merrill scored two goals and added two assists for four points and scooped up 23 loose balls in an 11-10 home win over San Jose on Saturday.

OFFENSIVE AND OVERALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Mark Steenhuis (Buffalo) - (2GP, 9G, 1A, 10Pts, 15LB) in two wins over the weekend, 13-11 over Minnesota and 18-13 over Rochester, Steenhuis scored nine goals and added one assist for a total of ten points, and collected fifteen loose balls.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Matt King (Portland) - (27 saves, 5GA) saved 27 of 32 shots on goal allowing only five goals in 51 minutes of play in an 11-10 win over San Jose. King entered the game with Portland trailing 5-0 in the first quarter.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK (Co-Winners)

Roger Vyse (Buffalo) - (2GP, 4G, 3A, 7PTS, 6LB) scored four goals and added three assists for seven points and collected six loose balls in wins over Minnesota (13-11) and Rochester (18-13) in Week Thirteen.

Brodie Merrill (Portland) - (2G, 2A, 4PTS, 23LB) scored two goals and added two assists for four points and scooped up 23 loose balls in an 11-10 home win over San Jose.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers & Head Coaches of the league's eleven member clubs.
