Gary Steelheads News Release

GARY, Indiana (June 1, 2007) - The Gary Steelheads improved their current winning streak to three games with an 84-77 victory over the Oklahoma Storm. It was the third victory over Oklahoma this season.

Oklahoma scored the first two points of this game, but Gary scored the next 20 to build a 22-2 cushion midway through the first quarter. By halftime, the Storm had fought back to close the Steelheads' lead to 46-39. Gary opened the lead back up to as much as 14 points in the third quarter, only to have Oklahoma come storming back in the fourth quarter to pull within two points late in the game. But Gary held off the charge and closed out the victory.

The Steelheads were paced by forward Jamario Moon, who tossed in 23 points for the winners. Forward Corey Minnifield and center Chris Alexander turned in double-double performances, with Minnifield scoring 14 points with 11 rebounds and Alexander tossing in 12 points with a game-high 14 rebounds. Guard Louis White and forward Marlowe Currie scored 10 apiece. Oklahoma, playing without forward Anthony Terrell, was paced by forward Michael Cuffey with 22 points. Joe Adkins added 14 and rookie Charles Ramsdell tossed in 14.

Gary won the game, despite shooting just .381 from the field. But poor free throw shooting did in the Storm, as they connected on just 12-of-28 (.429) on the evening. Gary hit 34-of-45 (.756) from the line. The Steelheads won the boards, 47-36.

With the victory, Gary improved its record to 13-7 on the year. Oklahoma fell to 7-12. The Steelheads will host the Midwest Division-leading Dodge City Legend at the Genesis Center Sunday at 6:00PM CDT.
