Gary Steelheads News Release

GARY, Indiana (May 31, 2007) - The Gary Steelheads made the most of a solid second-quarter performance to propel themselves to a 104-91 over the Oklahoma Storm at the Genesis Center Thursday night. It was the second Steelheads' victory over the Storm this season, with a third game between the two teams scheduled for Friday night.

The teams played even in the first quarter, finishing deadlocked at 20 apiece. But the Storm remained stuck on 20 until 4:23 into the second quarter, when Leroy Davis hit a six-footer. But by that time, Gary lead 32-22 and carried a ten-point lead into the locker room at halftime. The teams again played even in the third quarter, scoring 24 points apiece. Oklahoma cut the lead to seven in the fourth quarter, but the Storm could get no closer.

Gary roster changes had an impact on the result. Swingman Keith Salscheider, the newest Steelhead, hit 6-of-10 from the field and chipped in 14 points. Guard Eddy Barlow departed for a lucrative overseas contract, but Merrillville's Lonnie Randolph picked up the slack with 10 assists and six rebounds in 25 minutes. Forward Corey Minnifield paced all Gary scorers with 19 points, hitting 8-of-13 from the field. Forward Jamario Moon added 16 points, with a game-high nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Guard Louis White scored 15 points, while forward Marlowe Currie added 13 with six rebounds. Leroy Davis and Michael Cuffey tied for Storm scoring honors with 14 points apiece. Mario Woodson grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Oklahoma.

The Steelheads shot well for the game, hitting .532 from the field while holding the Storm to just .438 on the evening. Minnifield (8-of-13), Currie (6-of-9) and Salscheider (6-of-10) combined for 20-of-32 (.625) to fuel the attack. Gary also hit 5-of-10 three point attempts, while Oklahoma struggled at 3-for-17.

The Steelheads improved to 12-7 on the season, while the Storm remained winless on the road at 4-13. For ticket information on Friday night's rematch, contact the Steelheads office at (219) 883-3000.
