
Steelheads suffer tough road loss at Idaho

BOISE, Idaho. (January 31, 2004) â The Steelheads fell just short to the Idaho Stampede Saturday night at The Idaho Center, 117-114 to snap a four-game winning streak.
The Steelheads won 2.0 quarter points in the loss. The Steelheads (18-14) also snapped a three-game road winning streak. Idaho moved to a 23-10 record on the season, holding on to second place in the CBA.
The game was close throughout, the Steelheads jumped out to an early 14-10 lead on a Galen Young field goal. But Idaho led after the first quarter, 34-30. The Stampede then built a hefty 9-point lead at 48-39 with 7:42 left the second quarter on a field goal by David Bailey. The Steelheads roared back to keep the game close and Idaho led at the half 64-63.
Idaho led 82-81 with 4:08 left in the third quarter, then went on a 10 to nothing scoring run until Immanuel McElroy scored off of an offensive rebound with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter to make the score 92-83. The Steelheads trailed 95-84 with three seconds remaining in the third quarter when David Graves hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to make it 95-87.
The Steelheads came alive in the fourth quarter, outscoring Yakima 27-22 in the quarter but Graves' game-tying three pointer at the buzzer fell short.
Graves scored a team-high 25 points off of the bench. McElroy had 23 points on 11 of 17 shooting and snared a team-high 11 rebounds. Young had 18 points and 6 rebounds. Newcomer Marshall Phillips scored 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in his second game in a Steelheads uniform. Jemeil Rich added 16 points and 7 assists. Shelly Clark had 12 points.
Idaho's Josh Davis led the Stampede with a game-high 31 points while grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds. DeSean Hadley added 27 points and dished out 7 assists. De Paul graduate Paul McPherson scored 18 points. Bailey scored 14 points and dished out 8 assists. NBA veteran Randy Livingston only shot 4 of 14 from the field with 9 points, but dished out 8 assists and grabbed 8 rebounds.
The Steelheads have won nine road games this season - just one short of tying the franchise record set last season.
