
Steelheads Sign Randy Holcomb

GARY, Indiana (November 14, 2005) - The Gary Steelheads have signed forward Randy Holcomb to a contract, pending CBA approval. A 6-foot-9 forward, Holcomb possesses a fluid game and a potent outside shooting touch.
A native of Chicago (Lincoln Park High School), Holcomb participated in the Chicago Bulls NBA camp this Fall. He was released prior to the opening of the NBA season. This summer, Holcomb played in the Las Vegas Summer League with the Washington Wizards.
Holcomb was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the NBA Draft of 2002 (57th overall). He was also selected by the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the third round of the CBA Draft the same year (23rd overall).
Holcomb has played extensively overseas. During 2002-03, he played for Idea-Slask Wroclaw in Poland, averaging 14.6 ppg. During 2004-05, Holcomb played in Venezuela with Cocodrilos de Caracas, where he averaged 18.5 ppg. and 6.7 rebounds.
As a collegian, Holcomb was the first nationally prominent player to sign with San Diego State during the Steve Fisher era. He helped the Aztecs advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2002 for the first time since 1986. During his tenure, SDSU posted a 35-26 record after going 9-45 the two prevous seasons.
As a senior, Holcomb lead the Mountain West Conference in rebounding (9.0 rpg.), while finishing fourth in scoring (16.9 ppg.) and seventh in field goal percentage (.516). He was named to the All-MWC first team and was MVP of the MWC Tournament.
For his career, he averaged 16.4 ppg. with the Aztecs.
