
Steelheads sign Marshall Phillips

GARY, Ind. (January 29, 2004) â The Steelheads today added a veteran in 6-foot-5 Marshall Phillips.
The guard/forward can not only score, but has proven himself as an all-around player. Last season with the Rockford Lightning, Phillips averaged 18.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.0 blocked shots in 27 games. He was a National Basketball Developmental League All-Defensive First Team selection in 2001-02 while playing for the Roanoke (Va.) Dazzle.
"We added a veteran who can help us in our playoff push," Steelheads Head Coach Duane Ticknor said. "Marshall can play defense and also give us an offensive boost."
* The Steelheads' set a franchise record for least points allowed in a half when they gave up just to 30 Great Lakes on Sunday. The previous low was 35 vs. Idaho on Nov. 22, 2002 ... This season's previous low was 37 -- at Great Lakes on Dec. 9 and vs. Yakima on Dec. 27 (both first half) and vs. Great Lakes on Dec. 11 (2nd half).
* Jemeil Rich has 10 double-doubles for points and assists. He leads the league in assists per game with 9.6 and is second in steals per game with 3.12. Rich is the team's all-time assists and steals leader with 635 and 212 respectively. He is 82 assists short of breaking the team's all-time single-season record for assists. He set the mark last season with 358. He needs 35 steals to set the single-season record. Last season, Rich had 123 steals
* The Steelheads are third in the CBA in average attendance, averaging 2,691 fans through 14 home games. To date, the team's attendance exceeds last year's attendance mark by 632 fans per game.
* The Steelheads are 2-0 on Sundays this season. They are 13-1 when they leads at halftime
*The Steelheads play back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday at Yakima and Idaho respectively. They conclude the four-game road trip next Thursday at Rockford. All road games can be heard on the World Wide Web at www.steelheadshoops.com. The Steelheads return home on Friday, February 6 to host the league-leading Dakota Wizards. Game time is 7:05 p.m. at the Genesis Convention Center.
