Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, Indiana (April 21, 2007) - The Gary Steelheads host the Albany Patroons Sunday in a rematch of Friday night's 105-94 victory. With a win, the Steelheads would finish their first USBL homestand with a 5-1 record.
Gary placed seven players in double figures during Friday night's victory. Three of them made double-double contributions during the game. Guards Steve Lepore and Carl Edwards paced the attack with 16 points apiece. Lepore, who has now found his shooting eye, connected on 4-of-9 three pointers. Edwards, in just his third game with the team, hit on 8-of-11 shots from the field, while handing out four assists.
Forward Marlowe Currie became the third Steelheads player this season to grab 13 rebounds in a game, tying for the best performance in the league this year with fellow teammates Jermaine Blackburn and Adam Schaper. Currie also tossed in 10 points. Both Blackburn and Chris Garnett pulled down 10 rebounds, while scoring in double figures.
The Patroons had five players in double figures, paced by guard Antoine Jordan's 19 points. Former Steelhead Cory Hightower added 15 points for Albany, while Lewis Fadipe paced Patroons rebounders with eight.
The defeat was the first of the season for the Patroons, who logged previous victories over New Jersey and Brooklyn. Sunday's game was to have matched the Steelheads and New Jersey, but the Meteors ceased operations in the first week of the season. Therefore, the Patroons will provide back-to-back opposition.
