Gary Steelheads News Release

GARY, Indiana (February 26, 2006) - Less than 24 hours after falling out of first place in the CBA's Eastern Conference, the Gary Steelheads regained the lead without firing a shot.

The rival Rockford Lightning, who overtook the Steelheads to take a 3/1000th of a quarter point lead last night, dropped a Sunday afternoon home game to the Albany Patroons at the MetroCentre, 122-118. It was Albany's second straight victory over Rockford, after the Lighting had dominated the first seven meetings between the teams. Albany became the third team this season to defeat the Lightning on their home floor. The Steelheads have accomplished the feat three times, and have lost one other game at the MetroCentre in overtime.

After dominating the first quarter 43-33, the Lightning failed to win another quarter point. This lowered the Lightning's quarter point average to 3.99, while the Steelheads regained the conference lead by holding place at 4.06. The Steelheads do not play again until they take the road for back-to-back games at Albany Thursday and Friday night.

This week, the Steelheads ascended to the top of the minor league pro basketball power rankings assembled by ProBasketballNews.com (www.probasketballnews.com). In a franchise first, Gary ranked atop the weely poll ahead of the Yakama Sun Kings. Four of the Top 7 teams were from the CBA, with two from the NBDL and one from the ABA. In addition to Gary and Yakama, the Rockford Lightning held down the fourth position and the defending CBA champion Sioux Falls Skyforce ranked sixth.
