Gary Steelheads News Release

Gary, IN-The Gary Steelheads have announced that Rob Spon will be on the sidelines as the head coach for the team's first season in the International Basketball League.

Spon was an assistant coach with Steelheads last season, which fueled his desire to return to Gary.

"It's always good to be part of a team in a city where the fans know the game," said Spon. "Steelheads' fans are great not just because they support the team, but also because they are knowledgeable."

Spon has been a coach for over twenty years at a variety of levels, with a proven track record in the professional ranks both on the sideline and in the front office. In the now defunct IBA, Spon led the Saskatchewan Hawks to a turn-around 19 win season in 2000, following a 9 win campaign in 1999.

The Steelheads' inaugural IBL season gets underway at the Genesis Center on Friday, March 14. Tickets start at $5-for more information, contact the Steelheads at (219) 883-3000 or visit www.steelheadshoops.com.
