Gary Steelheads News Release

Gary, IN: The Gary Steelheads made two roster moves today, signing point guard Lazarus Sims and Center Derek Grimm to contracts for the remainder of the 2004-2005 season. Per team policy, terms of the contracts are confidential.

Sims joins the Steelheads after spending the past two years with the world famous Harlem Globetrotters. Before his time with the Globetrotters Sims spent time with the defunct Grand Rapids Hoops of the CBA. He also captured two IBL titles with the St. Louis Swarm in 2000 and 2001. Sims was also a teammate of current Steelheads Darrin Hancock and David Graves with the 2003 USBL Champion Dodge City Legend, which was assisted by Head Coach Dale Osbourne. As a member of the 1996 NCAA runner up Syracuse Orangemen, Sims lead the NCAA in total assists, 281, and is one of only four players to record a triple double in Big East history.

Grimm brings his talents to the Steelheads after spending his time with QMI Bashkimi Prizren of Kosovo. Grimm is also no stranger to the CBA as he spent time with the 2003-2004 Dakota Wizards. He was also spent time in the Philippines, Poland, Netherlands, and Japan. Grimm was also a teammate of Sims with the St. Louis Swarm of the IBL. Derek played nine games with the Sacramento Kings in 1997, averaging 1.6 points a game. Grimm was a four year starter for the Missouri Tigers.

"These are two great acquisitions by us," said Steelheads Head Coach Dale Osbourne. "Lazarus and Derek are both solid veterans that really improve our existing core of players. They both bring a solid work ethic and a will to win that will help us in our remaining games as we look to make a push for the playoffs."
