Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, Indiana (May 5, 2007) - The Gary Steelheads have found winning in Albany to be a daunting task. For the second time in two nights, the Steelheads fell to the Patroons at the Washington Avenue Armory. The final score for this game was 93-83, and the loss gave the Steelheads their first losing streak of the USBL season.
The Steelheads took a 24-17 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Patroons roared back to hold Gary to just 12 second quarter points for a 44-35 halftime lead. In the second half, Albany was able to blunt Gary's comeback attempts. When Steelheads' forward Jamario Moon hit a jumper at 6:30 of the fourth quarter, that pulled Gary within five points at 76-71. But then Patroons' guard Shawn Hawkins fired in three 3-pointers, and two other field goals to increase the lead to 83-73.
Guard Louis White and Carl Edwards paced the Steelheads with 21 points each, while Moon added 15 and forward Marlowe Currie 12. Center Eric Williams paced the victorious Patroons with 20 points, including 8-for-8 from the foul line.
Due to a computer glitch, the Patroons were unable to provide a game box score following the game. The game will be reviewed via video tape, and a box will then be provided to the USBL and the Howe Sports Data service.
The Patroons improved to 6-5 with the victory, while the Steelheads fell to 7-3. The Steelheads have a travel day Sunday, before facing the Brooklyn Kings on the road Monday night.
