Gary, IN: The Steelheads traveled to Rockford tonight looking to make up some ground in a rapidly disappearing 2004-2005 CBA season. The Steelheads came out on the short end of a triple overtime thriller, 141-135. In the loss, the Steelheads captured 1.5 quarter points.

The Steelheads had a chance to win in regulation, but Jermaine Walker hit two free throws with 6 seconds left. A Shelly Clark jumper at the buzzer fell short as the game moved into the first overtime, 111-111. The Steelheads jumped out to a three point lead with 1:30 left in the first overtime, but Jermaine Walker struck again, this time with a three pointer with 15 seconds left. Shelly Clark again had a good look at the buzzer but the jumper was off the mark to send the game into the second overtime, 118-118.

The second overtime went back and forth with neither team able to get more than a one possession lead. Brian Lubeck hit a three pointer with 1:38 left in the second overtime to put the Lightning up 127-126. Each team missed on their next two possessions, setting up a final chance for the Steelheads to capture the game, when Derek Grimm was fouled in the act of shooting with 1.9 seconds left. Grimm made the first free throw but the second rattled in and out and the game moved into the third overtime, 127-127.

Moving into new territory, the first time ever that the Steelheads played a triple overtime game, the Steelheads fell behind early. Brian Lubeck and Marshall Phillips each hit key buckets to put the Lightning up 135-129. Hunter was able to hit a three to pull back within three. Phillips then hit two free throws, but Hunter hit another three to get within two. The Steelheads were forced to foul in the final seconds. The Lightning was able to hit their free throws and capture the game, 141-137.

Leading the way for the Steelheads was Jimmie "Snap" Hunter, who had a Steelheads franchise high 48 points. Hunter was 20 for 34 from the field, both Steelheads records. David Graves had 22 points and Shelly Clark had 17 points. Jermaine Walker was the Lightning leading scorer with 30 points.
