Steelheads Lose at Idaho, 117-93

GARY, Indiana (December 20, 2005) - The Gary Steelheads fell below .500 for the first time since opening night, losing to the Idaho Stampede at the Qwest Center in Boise, 117-93. With the loss, Gary fell to 7-8 on the season. The Steelheads lost every quarter except the first, which they tied 27-27. Gary managed just ý quarter point with the loss.
Guard Jimmie "Snap" Hunter paced the Steelheads with 24 points and 8 rebounds, while Randy Holcomb registered his fifth double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 boards. Rookie Chris Moore also added 8 rebounds, but nobody else had more than 4. On the night, Gary was outrebounded 49-39. It was the 12th time in the last 14 games that the Steelheads were outrebounded.
Gary held its turnovers to just 12, while forcing 15. But the Steelheads could not overcome their second-poorest shooting night of the season, connecting on just 33-of-82 shots (.402). The Stampede shot .553 for the game.
The Steelheads pulled even with the Stampede at 38, as Randy Holcomb grabbed a rebound and scored at 6:13 in the second quarter. But over the next three minutes, Gary would be outscored 10-1. Josh Davis paced Idaho with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds.
The Steelheads return home Friday night to host the Sioux Falls Skyforce at the Genesis Center. All kids in attendance will receive mini-basketballs, courtesy of the Steelheads. Game time will be 7:05PM.
