Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, IN. - A number of former Gary Steelheads stars and college draft picks have been invited to participate in various NBA training camps this season.
Leading the way for the Steelheads is Gary native Jemeil Rich, who has secured a training camp invitation to the Orlando Magic. Joining Rich in NBA Training Camps are Lee Nailon and Ray Young with the New Orleans Hornets. Leon Smith will be returning to Seattle, where he finished last season, to participate in the Supersonics camp. Bruno Sundov will be looking to make the New York Knicks squad and Terrance Shannon will be in the NBA defending champion Detroit Pistons camp.
The Steelheads draft choices through out their four seasons are also making their presence known in NBA Training Camps. This year's draftees in camps are Jared Reiner with the Chicago Bulls, Darius Rice with the New Jersey Nets, and John Edwards with the Indiana Pacers. Prior draft picks include Britton Johnson with the New Orleans Hornets, Lonnie Jones with the Milwaukee Bucks, Jabari Smith with the Sacramento Kings, and Ronald Dupree with the Detroit Pistons.
"We had five players from last year's roster invited to NBA camps which is very exciting for us as an organization. To also have seven former draft picks, three from this draft alone, is also something great for us. We hope each player is able to make is team and I know we here at the Steelheads will be tracking their progress," said Steelheads Head Coach Duane Ticknor.
