Gary Steelheads News Release
Gary, IN: The Gary Steelheads announced today the signing of Jimmie "Snap" Hunter for the 2004-2005 CBA season, pending league approval. Per team policy, terms of the agreement are confidential.
Hunter had a very successful year last season with the Rockford Lightning, averaging 20.3 ppg, good for 4th in the CBA, and 4.9 rpg for the regular season. Hunter was a participant in last season's All-Star Game and was the Long Distance Shootout Champion. Hunter led the Lightning in playoff scoring, averaging 23.5 ppg. in their 4 game loss to eventual CBA champion Dakota.
Excellence follows Hunter in every place he has been in his career. He was a NAIA champion for Life University in 2000, where he was also named MVP of the National Tournament and NAIA Player of the Year. He has led the St. Louis Skyhawks and the Adirondack Wildcats of the USBL to post-season births. He was the USBL's leading scorer in 2004, averaging 26.7 ppg, and was named to the All-USBL First Team. For all of these accomplishments, Hunter was invited to participate in the Orlando Magic Summer League and was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers veteran camp this past off season.
"Signing "Snap" for this season is something that we are very happy about as an organization" said Steelheads Head Coach Duane Ticknor. "He is able to get his shot off at any time and gives us another scoring threat. I know he is going to fit in real with Jemeil and David in the backcourt and with Shelly setting his signature picks, "Snap" will be getting plenty of open looks this season."
"I am real happy to be playing in Gary," said Hunter. "They were our toughest opponent last season and with all their key players back, I hope I can come in and contribute to the success they had. Having J. Rich setting me up and with David on the other wing we will have a very dangerous backcourt. When everything is in place, we will be a very hard team to beat this season. I hope the fans are excited for the season, because I am," said Hunter.
