Gary Steelheads News Release

GARY, Indiana (May 28, 2007) - The Gary Steelheads host the Kansas Cagerz in a special Memorial Day game at the Genesis Center Monday. The Steelheads plan to honor veterans at the game, including reduced ticket prices.

The Steelheads hope for an inspiring performance of their own, as they meet the Cagerz for the fifth time this season. Gary remains winless against their Midwest Division foes, including Saturday night's 113-99 defeat in Gary. With the loss, the Steelheads fell to third place in the Midwest Division with a 10-7 record. They extended their current losing streak to three straight games (all to Kansas), and their record against the Cagerz this season to 0-4.

Gary played three solid quarters of basketball against Kansas Saturday night, but a 20-3 scoring drought beginning the fourth quarter did them in. With center Chris Alexander returning to the lineup for only the 2nd time in 14 games, the Steelheads reduced the rebounding gap with the Cagerz. But Kansas still won the boards, 45-38. Alexander contributed a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, doing most of his damage in the first half.

Eddy Barlow paced Steelheads' scorers with a season-high 20 points, and came within one assist of a double-double with nine. Forward Corey Minnifield added 17 points in a losing cause.

A broadcast of Monday's game will air through the SportsJuice web site (www.sportsjuice.com), with Bill Hazen calling his seventh season of Steelheads' action. Airtime will be 4:50PM CDT. Game time is 5:00PM CDT. For ticket information, contact the Steelheads office at (219) 883-3000.
