Steelheads' forward named to CBA all-defensive team

GARY, Indiana (March 15, 2006) "" Forward Randy Holcomb of the Gary Steelheads was named to the CBA All-Defensive team today, as voted by the eight CBA head coaches.

Holcomb is the only Steelheads' player this season to earn an NBA call-up (Chicago Bulls) this season, and he was also named MVP of the CBA All Star Game played on January 17th in Boise, Idaho. Holcomb, having just finished his call-up with the Bulls, flew to Boise for the mid-season classic and was named the game's MVP. He scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the game. He also added 2 blocked shots and 1 assist.

Holcomb became the first player in Steelheads' history to earn the MVP award in the All Star Game. He earned the honor despite his Eastern team falling to the Western stars, 119-110.

Holcomb appeared in 34 games for Gary in his first CBA season, averaging 7.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals with 25 blocked shots. He also chipped in 19.2 points per game (7th in CBA scoring).

Joining Holcomb on the first team was forwards Noel Felix of the Sioux Falls Skyforce and James Thomas of the Albany Patroons, along with center Kenyon Gamble of the Rockford Lightning and guard Corey Williams of the Skyforce. Felix was named the CBA's Defensive Player of the Year.
