Gary Steelheads News Release

GARY, Indiana (June 3, 2007) - The Dodge City Legend showed how they built their lead in the Midwest Division with a 94-86 victory over the Gary Steelheads at the Genesis Center. The Steelheads played the game shorthanded, with center Chris Alexander benched for disciplinary reasons.

The first quarter was played conservatively, with Dodge City grabbing a 19-16 lead. Were it not for some outstanding foul shooting in the second quarter, Gary would have fallen further behind. Instead, they cut the gap to 44-42 at halftime by hitting 19-of-22 free throws in the quarter.

But Dodge City came back strong in the third quarter, outscoring the Steelheads 26-20. Gary clawed back within a point at 79-78, when forward Jamario Moon connected on a three pointer at 6:02 of the fourth quarter. But, after a time out, the Legend regained their composure and iced the game.

The Steelheads were paced by forward Jamario Moon, who tossed in 16 points in a losing cause. Forward Corey Minnifield scored 15 points, while guard Carl Edwards tossed in 13 and guard Louis White scored 11 points.

Without Alexander, the boards went overwhelming to Dodge City, 54-40. The Steelheads could manage just .321 shooting from the field, while the Legend connected at a .424 clip. On a positive note, Gary forced 20 Dodge City turnovers while committing just 12.

With the win, Dodge City improves to 14-4 while Gary falls to 13-8. The two teams meet again Tuesday night at the Genesis Center. Game time will be 7:00PM CDT.
