Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, Ind. (February 3, 2004) â America's Second Harvest of Northwest Indiana and the Gary Steelheads are again partnering up to help less fortunate in the Northwest Indiana.
They will hold two "Canned Food" nights. They are Friday, February 27th and Saturday, February 28th at the Steelheads games. The Steelheads face the Great Lakes Storm on February 27th and the Rockford Lightning on February 28th. Fans are asked to bring a canned good or nonperishable food item for donation to America's Second Harvest. Items will be collected as fans enter the Genesis Convention Center on those nights.
"The first food drive we did for the Holidays went so well," said Kelli Rouse, Resource Developer for America's Second Harvest. "We wanted to do another one before the season ended."
America's Second Harvest of Northwest Indiana is a community-based, non-profit, charitable organization that serves as a clearinghouse for donated food. Their mission is to provide food for hungry people in Northwest Indiana through our network charities. They do this through the collection, storage, and distribution of donated and purchased food. By donating surplus products, Steelheads fans can help America's Second Harvest continue to meet the needs of the area's hungry.
In 2002, ASH of Northwest Indiana provided food for over 225,000 people by distributing over 2.5 million pounds of food through our network of 92 charities consisting of pantries, shelters, meal programs, community service agencies, children's homes, day care centers, and senior citizen programs.
