Steelheads' '08 schedule includes IBL's best

Gary, IN-Steelhead fans can expect to see some of the IBL's most high-powered basketball organizations visit the Genesis Center for the Steelheads' 2008 home schedule. The Steelheads will play 12 home contests in their inaugural IBL campaign.
Visitors on the 2008 schedule will include the IBL's two time defending champion Elkhart Express, as well as the leagues' 2005 champions, the Battle Creek Knights. The Portland Chinooks (Oregon), last season's IBL runner up, will also visit Gary in 2008. Portland and Battle Creek are both fourth year teams, while the Express are entering year three in the IBL.
The Steelheads will also host the world's tallest athlete when 7'9" Sun Ming Ming and the Grand Rapids Flight come to town. Grand Rapids is a fourth year IBL team. The Steelhead will also face the Bellingham Slam (Washington) in Gary; the Slam, like the Steelheads, are a top-flight team/organization that played in another league (ABA) and decided to switch over to the IBL. Other home opponents include the third year organizations Holland (Michigan) Blast, the Windy City Soldiers out of Kankakee and possibly the Elgin (Illinois) Racers.
Highlighting the Steelheads' road schedule is a trip to southern California to take on the IBL's expansion team in Los Angeles (to be announced within one week), and the powerhouse Santa Barbara Breakers. The Breakers are again expected to put together one of the IBL's most talented squads. Four former NBA players (Lamond Murray, Samaki Walker, Toby Bailey and Fred Vinson) suited up for the Breakers in 2007.
