Gary Steelheads News Release
Gary, IN-Jamario Moon, a standout for the Gary Steelheads last season, has moved into the starting rotation for the NBA's Toronto Raptors. Moon has taken advantage of the opportunity, scoring 21 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, and blocking two shots in his first two outings as a starter.
Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell appreciates the 6'8" rookie's impact on the Raptors' team defense. "He deflects passes, he can get in the passing lane and change shots-it's the kind of thing we've been missing since I've been here," said Mitchell.
Moon was among the league (USBL) leaders in several categories for the Steelheads in 2007. Moon finished sixth in scoring (16.7 ppg) fifth in rebounding (6.8 rpg) and second in blocked shots (2.1 bpg). Moon was also in the top ten in free throw and three point shooting percentage.
Steelheads' CEO Jewell Harris Jr.-"Jamario is very deserving of the opportunity he has with the Toronto Raptors. During his time in Gary, he demonstrated a unique ability to remain focused and professional. I wish him well with his NBA career."
The Steelheads' inaugural season in the IBL kicks off in March of 2008.
