Steel Sign Former Lawrence High Star Herold

The Trenton Steel, in announcing the signing of former Lawrence High star and Kean University performer Anthony (Big Ant) Herold.
"I am very excited to have this opportunity to play for the Trenton Steel in front of my hometown crowd, said the 6-4, 330-pound Herold. "It's something I dreamed of my whole life to play on a team and represent the great city of Trenton''
After finishing his Lawrence High career as a member of the 2004 CVC Valley Division champions, his career at Kean was sidetracked by injury for three years. During that period, however, Herold volunteered his time to the Lawrence High football program with the freshman and varsity teams,
Returning to play for Kean in 2008, he added depth to the offensive line. In 2009, he started the season with the offensive line, but at the end of camp was asked Kean coach Dan Garrett to move over to the defensive line because of a lack of depth in that positional group due to injuries in that area.
Showing versatility, Herold switched back to the offensive line for the 2009 season in an ECAC Southeast Bowl Game won, 35-17, by Kean. It was back to the defensive line in 2010, where Herold registered two sacks and became known as a "wall" on the goal-line due to several significant goal-line stands throughout the 2010 campaign, including stops against SUNY Cortland, SUNY Brockport and The College of New Jersey.
This versatility could serve the Steel well, as many linemen play both ways as part of Indoor Football.
The Steel open their inaugural season in the Southern Indoor Football League March 19 at the Richmond Raiders, with their home-opener at 7:05 p.m. March 26 at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton.
