TRENTON, N.J. - Steel defensive back Gladel Brutus bounded off the field following his team's 86-42 rout of the visting Carolina Speed before 3,071 at the Sun National Bank Center Friday night.

"You know,'' he said. "We are getting there.''

The Steel, (2-3) losers of their first three games by three points, broke out in a big way, burying the Speed (1-3), a team, like the Steel, which won its first game last week.

In this contest, the Steel broke out of a 41-34 halftime lead to score 45 second-half points. The starts on both sides of the ball were many.

Quarterback E.J.Nemeth, the former Notre Dane star, had his best night of the season, completing 19-of-33 passes for 336 yards, seven of which went for touchdowns. Four of the scoring tosses went to Oderick Turner, the former Pittsburgh star returning after sitting out the last two games with an injury. He caught six passes for 134 yards and four touchdowns.

Fan-favorite Dan Huff had another monster game, hauling in eight balls for 128 yards.

Defensively, Keon Latimore, Ray Lewis' younger brother and a player with immense athletic ability, returned two Antonio Miller interceptions for touchdowns.

As Brutus mentioned, both the Steel and Steel Core Nation, in the view from the Chick-Fil-A Press Box and beyond, are getting there.
