
Steel notch first win

Bensenville, ILâ The Chicago Steel captured their first win of the season Saturday night, defeating the Des Moines Buccaneers 3-0 at Buccaneer Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Steel rookie Alan Thompson (Gilford, NH) recorded his first career United States Hockey League goal a little over 2 minutes into the second period. Fellow rookie Nathaniel Brooks (Richmond Hill, ONT) assisted on the play.
Later in the second, the Steel would extend their lead by two at 9:40 when Kevin Swallow (Stanwood, MI) beat the Buccaneers goalie on assists from Chris Walsh (Northville, MI) and Pat Bowen (Marshfield, MA). The Bucs would put forth a gallant effort in the third period out shooting the Steel 13- 6 but Steel defenseman Cody Lampl (Ketchum, ID) put the game away with an empty net goal with 57 seconds left in regulation to give the Steel a 3-0 win.
Billy Sauer (Rochester, NY) made 28 saves in goal for the Steel and earned his first career victory and shutout in the USHL.

The STEEL travel to Kearney, NE this weekend to take on the defending West Division Champions, the Tri-City Storm, for a pair of games. The Storm is currently 2-1-0 on the season after defeating Waterloo 4-3 in overtime this past Saturday. A quartet of players leads the Storm in points with 3. Goalie Zane Kalemba has started all three games in goal for the Storm, registering a 2-1-0 record and a 2.24 GAA.
The STEEL return home the weekend of October 15th to battle the Lincoln Stars at 7:35 and the following night take on the Des Moines Buccaneers at 7:05pm at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville. Prior to returning home, the STEEL will travel to Indianapolis on Thursday, October 14th to face the Ice.
