
Steel DB Sergio Gilliam Named Riddell Defensive POW

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Arena Football League announced that Portland Steel DB Sergio Gilliam has won the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week award after his two interception game in Week 18 against the LA KISS. This is Gilliam's second award of the 2016 season. He was honored for his Week 11 performance against the Tampa Bay Storm earlier this season.
In Monday night's game against the Storm, Gilliam made five tackles and intercepted KISS quarterback Pete Thomas twice and returned those turnovers for a combined 26 yards. The two turnovers were a part of the Steel defense's four stops on the night and a 48-46 Steel victory.
Now in his sixth season out of Clemson, Gilliam led the Steel defense with 55 tackles, three tackles for loss, one forced fumble and led the team with five interceptions this season.
The Steel will travel to take on the Arizona Rattlers in the First Round of the Arena Football League playoffs this Saturday, August 6 with kickoff from Talking Stick Resort Arena set for 7 p.m. The game can be seen on CBS Sports Network and can be heard on the home of Portland Steel football 750AM and 102.9FM The Game with Ron Callan and Brian Perkins.
