St. Louis Steamers News Release

CHICAGO, IL - The St. Louis Steamers (5-2) traveled into the Windy City and ended up coming home with a 7-4 win against the Chicago Storm (2-5) at the UIC Pavilion, and inched closer to the league leaders, Milwaukee Wave. The win places the Steamers only two games behind in the standings after coming into the weekend trailing by three. This victory coupled with Friday night's win over the Baltimore Blast gave the Steamers a perfect weekend.

The scoring got started by the Steamers in the first quarter when defender Randy Soderman scored after being set up by Mike Apple, beating Storm goalkeeper Danny Waltman. The goal was Soderman's third of the season. Forward Joe Reiniger followed that up in the second quarter to make it 2-0. But Chicago would begin fighting back when Byron Alvarez scored from Jorge Valle to cut the lead in half. Valle would later score to tie the game up taking it into the halftime break.

Early in the third quarter, the Storm took their first lead of the game when Novica "Novi" Marojevic scored on a penalty kick following a handball call against Steamers defender D.J. Newsome. But the lead wouldn't last long. Sonny Naumoski scored his first goal of the game to tie it up on a power play. Soon after that, Joe Reiniger added his second goal to give the Steamers the lead going into the fourth quarter.

Naumoski would make it 5-3 early in the fourth on his second goal. It was also prove to be the game winner. Speedster Shaun David would add some cushion by scoring his team leading sixth goal of the season with 3:09 to go in the game. The Storm would make it interesting after Marc Ughy scored to make it 6-4, but Reiniger would add one more goal, making the score 7-4. The goal gave Reiniger the hat trick, and ties him with David atop the team leader board in goals.

The Steamers next game is on Thursday night at 9:30pm in Stockton, CA against the California Cougars, who the Steamers have beaten twice so far this season.
