ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers are preparing to take on the Milwaukee Wave in a battle for the top spot in the regular season standings in the Major Indoor Soccer League. As of now, the Steamers are on top of the second place Wave by two-and-a-half games. The two teams will face each other twice this weekend with each team hosting a game in their home arena. St. Louis will host Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon at Savvis Center, where the Steamers are undefeated, beginning at 1:05 p.m. Then they will travel U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee to play the Wave once more on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. as well.
So far this season, the Steamers have taken two of the three previous meetings against Milwaukee. The only loss came back on December 3rd when the Wave came from behind and won in overtime, 6-5. In that game, the Wave scored a goal with one second remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. The Steamers avenged that loss by winning on the Wave's home field on January 13th, 10-4. the last time they faced each other, St. Louis again came out on top with a 6-3 win on February 12th, this time at Savvis Center.
The Milwaukee Wave is the defending MISL Champions and, like the Steamers, has clinched a berth in the MISL Championship Series, scheduled to begin in April. Sunday's game will mark the regular season home finale for Milwaukee. Following this weekend, the Steamers will have four games remaining with three to be played at Savvis Center, where they are currently 11-0. They are still the only remaining team in the MISL with a perfect record at home.
