St. Louis Steamers News Release
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers pushed past the Baltimore Blast on the field and in the MISL standings with a 7-2 in Savvis Center Friday night. The win made the Steamers record 4-2 and moved them into second place all by themselves trailing only the Milwaukee Wave, now by 2.5 games. The Steamers can push that to 2 games back with a win in Chicago Sunday afternoon.
The Scoring got started when the Steamers Sterling Wescott blasted a shot above the outstretched Blast keeper, Sagu, at the 8:21 mark of the first quarter. Jeff DiMaria had the assist on the goal. The Steamers followed that up in the second quarter with three unanswered goals by Joe Reiniger, "Chile" Farias and Shaun David. With less than a minute to go in the first half, Denison Cabral beat Steamers goalkeeper Brett Phillips to make the score 4-1 in the break.
During halftime, the Steamers honored the 1994-95 Ambush championship team. It is the only indoor soccer championship in St. Louis history. Many former players were presented with a plaque by former player/coach, Daryl Doran, and current Steamers owner, Michael Hetelson.
In the second half, Joel Bailey brought the Blast to within two when he scored 3:13 in the fourth quarter. The third period saw no scoring. With the final seconds ticking away, the Blast brought an extra attacker on the field, and that's when the Steamers got their insurance, with a goal from Jamar Beasley. Keeper Phillips added the assist on the Beasley goal; it was his third of the season. Sterling Wescott and Randy Soderman each scored to reach the final tally of 7-2.
