Steamers Smack Blast back to Baltimore

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers (11-3) perhaps came into tonight's game with a bit of a chip on their shoulder. In the Steamers first game of the season, the Baltimore Blast (8-5) beat up on St. Louis 12-5, still their worst loss of the season. Tonight, they sent Baltimore back east with a 12-3 win, their largest win of the season.

The scoring got started with "Chile" Farias beating goalkeeper Sanaldo only 58 seconds into the game. Beasley would set up the initial goal beginning a big night for each player. Sunny Naumoski scored the next Steamers goal giving them a 2-0 lead after the first quarter. Beasley and Joe Reiniger would each add one to make it 4-0 nothing early in the second. Baltimore would show a rally by getting consecutive goals from Adauto Neto and Lee Tschantret, cutting the lead in half. But that was as close as they got. The Steamers would get goals from Beasley, Farias, Mariano Bollella and Reiniger to make it 8-2 at the half.

Seven seconds into the third, the Blast's David Bascome would bring it within five, but that was all they would get. Steamers keeper Brett Phillips stopped six of only nine shots faced, giving him his tenth win and ninth in a row. Chile Farias would add three assists two his two goals giving him five points on the night. Beasley would add another goal and an assist in the second half, also giving him five points (3 goals, 2 assists).

The win places the Steamers in a first place tie with the Milwaukee Wave atop the MISL standings. Each team has an 11-3 record with games this weekend. Baltimore has a chance at some comeback when St. Louis comes to 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore on Saturday night at 6:05 pm CDT. Then the Steamers head back home to take on the California Cougars in Savvis Center Sunday night at 8:05 pm CDT. St. Louis is 4-0 so far this season against California while they improve their record over Baltimore to 2-1.
