St. Louis Steamers News Release
ST. LOUIS, Jan. 30, 2005 â The Steamers lost the second of back-to-back games against the Philadelphia Kixx on Sunday (January 30) at the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia. It was the third consecutive game in as many days and the road-weary Steamers lost 7-3.
The loss drops the Steamers' record to 13-9 and puts them one-half game behind Philadelphia, who improved to 13-8 with Sunday's win. Sunday's game was a makeup date for a game that was postponed because of a winter storm in Philadelphia last Saturday (January 22). Less than 24 hours earlier, the Steamers defeated the Kixx 6-3 in overtime. St. Louis lost 5-3 Friday night in Chicago, for a 1-2 back-to-back-to-back weekend.
Mariano Bollella, who scored the game-winner for the Steamers in Saturday's contest, notched one goal Sunday for the Steamers. Ibrahim Kante and Shaun David each earned a goal. Philadelphia's Drew Kopp and player/coach Don D'Ambra each scored while Kevin Sloan registered a hat trick and John Barry Nusum scored a pair of goals.
Goalkeeper Brett Phillips (9-7) played all three games in goal for St. Louis this weekend. Peter Pappas (11-7) earned the win for Philadelphia in Sunday's duel.
The Steamers return to action in three days when they host the Kansas City Comets at Savvis Center at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2.
